I stopped drinking on February 27th, 2025. It’s something I’ve thought about doing many times before, but it took me until my mid-thirties to finally pull the trigger.
I wasn’t a heavy drinker. I wasn’t addicted to alcohol. But what I found was that I was addicted to the habit. When picking a place for dinner, I’d default to good breweries with OK food. In a new town on vacation? Time to look up a new brewery instead of a new restaurant!
It had just gotten to be so pervasive in every aspect of life that I decided it was time for a change. So at the very end of February, I decided enough was enough. Haven’t had a drink since, and I have no interest in it.
After that I read a number of books, ranging from your typical AA books to the Recovery Dharma and everything in between. While they certainly had aspects that spoke to me, none were specifically right – I wasn’t trying to cover anything in my past and I wasn’t addicted to alcohol directly. I kept going and found that realistically, I didn’t miss drinking at all.
Since then, I’ve tried a number of different non-alcoholic beers, THC and CBD seltzers, things like that. For this article in particular, I wanted to highlight two of my favorites that I’ve had a number of times since February, in hopes that it might help you take some time away from drinking or enjoy on your own.

Sunday Scaries has been around a bit longer – founded in 2017 – and focuses on THC & CBD Wellness Products for Stress, Anxiety & Sleep.

Similarly to BRĒZ, I tried Sunday Scaries for the first time after my kids were down for the night and I had a couple hours to myself. I tried the Extra Strength CBD (25MG CBD and 1MG THC), and sat down to relax for a bit.
Unlike BRĒZ, this took a little while to take effect – it felt like 30-45 minutes before I felt anything, but it was wonderful once I did. It’s hard to put into words the sense of calm – I have ADHD and constantly feel a stream of 1,000 things in my head, but this was a very welcome reprieve. I spent a solid 2+ hours drawing, something I rarely take the time to prioritize, and genuinely enjoyed it.

BRĒZ was definitely the choice for a true replacement for booze. It gave a more bubbly, euphoric feeling, and took effect much faster. It didn’t last as long as Sunday Scaries – but the feeling was more intense and acute.
