Best air purifiers: 6 picks, compared and ranked
Every product below was read on its Amazon listing. One editor set the order by hand; the scores are his opinion, not a lab result.
How we rank
How the order was set: our editor ranked the purifiers by hand on how clearly each states and backs up its coverage (independent testing and AHAM verification count for more than brand claims), the filters, value for the room size, and the depth of the Amazon review history. No algorithm, and no brand paid for its position.
What was researched: for every purifier we read its Amazon listing and recorded the rated coverage and how it was measured, the filter stages, the controls and noise figures, and the star average and rating count. We did not test any product.
What the scores mean
Each score is our editor’s opinion on a 10-point scale of how well the product fits the typical reader of this page: rated coverage that is clearly measured, sensible filtration for the room, honest terms, and a review history deep enough to trust. It is not a lab result or a customer-review average.
Transparency
Do you earn money from the links on this page? Yes. Every link on this page is an Amazon affiliate link created through Levanta that pays us a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. No brand pays for a review or a ranking.
Why is PuroAir first? Because its 750 sq ft coverage figure is tied to independent ISO 17025 lab testing and its filter includes activated carbon for odors. It is a one-room purifier; for a big open space we would pick BLUEAIR’s 211i Max.
What do the badges mean? Best Overall Pick is what we would point most people to. Value Pick is the option we would choose if price were the deciding factor. Premium Pick is the option we would choose if price were not the deciding factor.
How often is this page updated? We re-read every product listing and update this page when a product, a term or an offer changes.

Transparency statement: Advertisers do NOT get to determine how they are ranked. We rank products independently by using independent and verifiable reviews and data points. We may earn a commission if you buy through any link on this page, but that does not influence our ranking.

Best Overall PickPuroAir130i Smart HEPA air purifier
For: a bedroom or living room up to about 750 sq ft, from a brand whose coverage figure comes from independent lab testing.
PuroAir says the 130i cleans a 750 sq ft room in one hour, based on testing in an ISO 17025 lab, and its 3-layer filter with activated carbon targets dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander and odors.
Trade-off: Its 750 sq ft hourly figure is smaller than the larger units here, so it is a one-room purifier, not a whole-floor one. The 99.9% filtration figure is the brand’s own claim from its own testing.
- Rated coverage750 sq ft in one hour (brand figure, independent ISO 17025 lab testing)
- Filter3-layer filter with CarbonTech activated carbon; brand says up to 99.9% of pollutants including dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander and VOCs
